You don’t beat this thing, Ripley. You can’t. All you can do is refuse to engage. You’ve got to wipe out every trace. Destroy any clue. Stop its infection from spreading. Make sure there’s no chance of the human race ever making contact with it again. Because the moment it makes contact, it’s won.

- Henry Marlow (Alien Isolation)

Head Canon coming:

The Xenomorph is a predator of obsession.
Not meaning that it itself is obsessed, but that it makes it’s prey obsessed with it.
The Xenomorph is inherently fascinating to us and other sentient races in the ALIENS universe. As soon as some one encounters them, an obsession is generated, either scientific, corporate, philosophical, militaristic, or even simply hateful. All these are used to the Xenomorph’s advantage, no matter the context as they all give it a chance to propagate.

You can see this in nearly all ALIENS stories. Weyland Corp. knew the danger placed on the civilian crew of the Nostromo by making them detour to LV-426 and discover the Derelict, but wanted the xenomorph as they saw potential military and economic value in it. Ash, the android, himself becomes personally caught by the xenomorph’s weaponized biology and it’s seeming “purity” in the simplicity of it’s motivations and lack of morality.
The Company tries once again via Burk sneaking samples from the infested Acheron colony, which is a massive economic loss on it’s own but despite that the Xenomorph is worth the risk. Ripley herself is attracted to the Xenomorph, her hate and fear of them driving her to go back to the source of her misery rather than avoiding it.
Golic in Alien 3 becomes disturbingly enthralled by the xenomorph after it slaughterd his friends, even freeing it from a trap in the director’s cut.
Ripley becomes further drawn in to the point were she is virtually a strain herself.

Even AVP shares this thread, as the Predator’s obsession with the Xenomorph has lead to them spreading the Xenomorph across the galaxy for hunts that never end well for the hunters and those caught in the hunt.

The Xenomorph has used sentient races to survive since whenever they originated. They may not even be the true original strain of the first Xenomorphs, they could have gone extinct multiple times, but always came back due to being discovered by another sentient race so intrigued they recreated them.
The Engineers may not have made the species, but simply been the harbinger of the current generation, their own obession leading them to create a new strain. We ourselves will attempt to reproduce them, much like in Alien Resurrection or Alien Covenant.

In the Earth Wars series of comics, its described that the Xenomorph seems to produce some unknown spore or substance that makes one desire to get closer to the xenomorph the longer they are in contact with them. People slowly go mad with the strange comfort and warmth they feel from the xenomorphs and consciously walk right into the egg chamber to be infested. Their obsession spreads in multiple forms, even the want to destroy the alien will lead to brash actions that simply cause them to walk head first into certain demise.

Simply any knowledge or contact with the Alien gives it a chance to continue the species. They can wait for eternity with ancient and eager eggs hidden away until another curious thing happens upon them to be impregnated. The best strategy is to never encounter them in the first place, to avoid them at all cost and let them sleep.
But eventually, some one will find them again and start the next cycle.
